Manufacturer mail-back Check with city

Don't do this

  • Don't put computers, monitors, laptops or printers out with FILCO trash or bulk. They're banned from NJ trash.
  • Don't bring electronics to a Passaic County household hazardous waste day. The county lists them as unacceptable.
  • Don't take a monitor or printer to United Paterson Enterprises. NJDEP's list says it takes computers only.
  • Wipe or remove hard drives before you recycle a computer.

Or pay someone to haul it

If you can't get it to a drop-off site, or can't wait for city pickup, a junk-removal service can take it from inside your home. Prices depend on the company, your location and the size of the load, so get a quote first. Ask whether they recycle or donate items and whether they follow Paterson's rules, especially for electronics and paint.

Can I put a computer out for Paterson bulk pickup?

No. Electronics aren't on the city's bulk-item list, and NJ law bans covered devices from the trash. Use an NJDEP-listed site or a county electronics day.

Is electronics recycling free in Paterson?

At NJDEP-approved manufacturer collection sites it should be, because NJ law bars charging consumers there. Call to confirm a site still participates.

When is the next Passaic County electronics day?

The county's 2026 list shows October 23 (10 a.m.–3 p.m.) and October 24 (8 a.m.–1 p.m.), 2026, at 950 High Mountain Rd., North Haledon. Call 973-305-5738 to confirm.
